To make a long story short, the explanation starts off with "Restaurants" that can benefit from online presence, but is applicable to almost any business or otherwise that crosses your mind.

Do you sense how those businesses can benefit from their online exposure (with details)?

How much do you think they'll pay annually to be provided with that exposure in a category of business amongst their competitors? Would you rather know the details of only one restaurant that has its own specific Web Site compared to being find others that provide the same services listed in a directory all on one page/list, leading you to any of your choice in all their varieties?

Do you see how such lists can serve the community around your area of residency?

Can you sense how such a list can attract visitors to the page/s covering your area?

Do you think that such businesses have no care for such online exposure on the Internet? Especially when there are other attractions for visitors to such a Web Site (such as the reference library materials and their links, including links to most of the other reference library Web Sites on the Internet)?

Do you think you can provide at least one business with an online page for their specific service/s?

Once you cover 4 or 5 such businesses and get used to it, how long do you think it takes on the average for each business? That's not an offhand easy question to answer. The answer to that needs an idea about how much time was spent in visiting each of those businesses. How many one actually went into details with to persuade them with the idea, scan their brochures/pamphlets/menus/whatever, fitting/inserting those scanned images on provided preformatted pages (very simple when supplied with) adding a couple of lines for name, address, communication particulars etc.

Admittedly I live in the midst of a dense business area. When I prepared those pages I would go out daily for 4-6 hours a day and introduce myself to each business that qualifies for any listing. Within those 4-6 hours I could visit around 50 businesses. Those with instant "no" for answers did not take more than 2-4 minutes each. But I managed around 10-15 that showed interest and recognized the benefits of additional advertising and exposure. In one week that's about 70 or more secured for a trial. That's also 70 or more new business acquaintances gained. You'll also get offered a coffee or tea or juice or some drink or other whilst discussing what you can offer. Most days I'd get back to home base full of vitamins from at least 4-5 fresh juices from some of the restaurants on my way. Walking around and drinking free fresh juices is also both healthy. To scan etc and finally upload what was collected in that one week required an additional week at 4-6 hours daily to scan etc and finally upload those specific pages for those 70 or more businesses. So that's 70 businesses total in 2 weeks at 4-6 hours daily (actually I was doing more hours daily, hence more exercise, drinks and juices). That works out at 35 successful uploads per week or 5 per day. In a year of 52 weeks that's 35X52 = 1820 businesses.

How come there are not so many businesses on this Web Site?

Actually I'm on my own on this Web Site until now. I'm also just part time on it (maybe 4-6 hours daily, sometimes less). One person only, myself has attended to, what you now see, so far. I'm also busy full time with freelance translation, when I get such work to busy myself with. Until I can give this Web Site my full time attentions (once providing better securities than freelance translation) I'm waiting for others from other areas to participate. This Web Site comes up in top 10 results on the majority of searches in my area for any of the businesses that it covers until now. It requires coverage of other areas, such as yours to further increase its daily/monthly/annually visitors to make it come up in top 10 results in your area and other areas. Presently I live in Dubai. If you don't know Dubai, it's where 1 in 15 construction cranes in the world are now erected. It's a densely populated city. Its traffic congestion on top of parking place difficulties has dissuaded me from owning a car since its latest boom since around 2000. Since 2000 I've tried my best to abstain from commuting outside my walking distance perimeters. There may be over 6000 restaurants alone in Dubai. Though I initially hoped to cover Dubai alone, but I soon realized the impossibility of that after the first few months of launching the "services" categories. , seeking parking space and having to return to pump parking meter charges made it further non-feasible for me to try that alone. What's required is most efficiently done where parking is not a problem as it is here. Hence I then decided to seek agents to further cover Dubai as well as elsewhere. Maybe 10 or more for Dubai, maybe 30-50 to cover the whole country. But there's space for all countries of the world. So imagine what I'm going to have to sustain in dealing with the Web Site once a few agents are acquired. I'll simply and eventually have to employ others at home base to deal with uploading, updating, upgrading the Web Site as we go along while agents cover securing subscribers.

How many businesses do you think you can cover in one year? Let's not be greedy and let's assume that the maths above leading to 1820 prospective businesses for you was maybe exaggerating. Let's go down to 50% of the daily or weekly hours spent by you and let's make that 900 annually instead of 1820.
